2003 Empire Classic - Exhibition Squat Shadle Park Auditorium, Spokane, WA |
|
Another joint effort to bring bodybuilding and powerlifting a little closer together. This was the 2nd annual Empire Classic where I did an exhibition squat during intermission. Along with me was supposed to be Brad Gillingham, demonstrating the deadlift, but had torn his bicep during the strongman competition at the Arnold Classic this year. He still came and talked to spectators while at the USAPL/GNC booth.
The following are the first of several pictures to come. This was my opening attempt, supposed to be 465, but we forgot to put on the 5s while being rushed to get wrapped and move the squat stands out on the stage. 455 flew. I came back at the end of intermission to attempt a 505 squat. Pretty ugly squat as I didn't seem to have my groove and the wood floor of the stage was a bit slippery. The crowd was pleased, but would not have been a passing squat in a real competition.
It was a ton of fun though and special thanks to Paul Hughes, my bother Ivan for all his help and my two side spotters, Jason Patrick and my workout partner Greta Pipkin...and to 'New Girl' for running the camera. You guys are great!
