I always like doing a warm-up meet for Nationals so I can work the bugs out.  I lifted in the 165 class, weighing in at a light 149.  The venue was great, the meet ran at a world level pace by Lance Slaughter and Justin Maile.  I met a ton of great people from the California area and hope to see a couple of the girls at the 2004 Nationals.  Thanks to Justin and Autumn for having me over after the meet for PIZZA!  Can't have a meet without pizza.  Thanks Autumn for taking all the pics as well.  And THANKS to Larry for the excellent coaching and picking great attempts.

I had an off day with the squats.  Too much running around the day before, the pace of the meet and wrapping myself all contributed to only hitting my opener of 457. I did break my own previously owned American squat record of 452, so can't complain too bad.

Bench went better than squats, opening at 253, then 286 and finally 297.5.  We switched shirts out between my 2nd and 3rd attempt and all I have to say is I LOVE how easy the Fury is to get on and off!

Deads were good as well.  Opened up at a really light 457 and once I got down to the bar, it flew up.  Jumped up to 502.5 on my second to break the 165 American record that has been unbroken since 1989.  I was just locking out my hips when my ankle rolled again (same fate as Nationals '03 but different foot this time). I think I gave Lisa Denison heart failure when she saw my ankle roll, she popped up out of that head ref seat lickity split.   I took it again on my 3rd attempt, and FINALLY broke the 500 barrier, only been trying that for years now. :)

My total was far from what I had projected, but walked away with an 11lb pr and another American record of 1256.5.

Now it is time to get serious for Nationals!
